Description
TEREA Purple Menthol is the Japan edition menthol stick built around a blueberry aroma over a cool finish. It is a heated tobacco stick for IQOS ILUMA devices, sold here in the Japanese domestic pack.
IQOS Japan places it in the refreshing menthol group rather than the strong menthol group. It suits anyone who wants dark berry sweetness without a harsh icy edge.
What does TEREA Purple Menthol actually taste like?
IQOS Japan describes it as a refreshing menthol lifted by a luxurious blueberry aroma. That is the full official line, and the rest of this section is plain explanation.
The blueberry reads as dark and jammy rather than sharp. It is closer to ripe berry than to the tart green fruit notes used elsewhere in the range.
Sweetness is the highest of the gentle menthol sticks, but it stays fruity instead of turning into candy. The tobacco sits well back behind the berry.
The menthol supports the fruit and closes each puff cleanly. It cools without numbing, which is exactly what the refreshing menthol label is meant to signal.
This is our own tasting read of the blend. IQOS Japan shows flavour bars but publishes no numbers, so this is not an official rating.
Where does Purple Menthol sit in the Japan TEREA range?
The Japan menthol family runs from mild mint up to the Black sticks. Purple Menthol sits in the gentler half, one step above Mint.

Here is the official wording for the sticks closest to this one. Every description in the table is the IQOS Japan text in English.
| Variant | Official IQOS Japan wording | Menthol group | Capsule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purple Menthol | A refreshing menthol lifted by a luxurious blueberry aroma | Refreshing menthol | No |
| Black Purple Menthol | A strong menthol woven from intensely cold menthol and a mellow, full blueberry aroma | Strong menthol | No |
| Menthol | Deep menthol coolness with peppermint and creamy aromas | Refreshing menthol | No |
| Mint | Balanced mint coolness and tobacco taste | Lowest menthol level in Japan | No |
| Ruby Regular | Rich raspberry and faint floral aromas that bring out mellow tobacco leaves | No menthol | No |
| Yellow Menthol | A refreshing menthol harmonising citrus and herb aromas | Refreshing menthol | No |
Two decisions matter here, and most shops skip both. The first is Purple Menthol against TEREA Black Purple Menthol, which is the same blueberry idea on a colder base.
IQOS Japan is consistent about the word Black. Non Black menthol sticks like this one are called refreshing menthol, while Black sticks are called strong menthol woven from intensely cold menthol.
The official berry wording shifts too. This stick is a luxurious blueberry aroma, and the Black version is a mellow, full blueberry aroma over that intensely cold base.
The second decision is for buyers who want fruit with no cooling at all. TEREA Ruby Regular is rich raspberry and faint floral aromas with no menthol anywhere in its official wording.
So there are three clear routes. Take Ruby Regular for berry without cold, this stick for berry with a light cool, and Black Purple Menthol for berry with real cold.
If you only want to move one notch, TEREA Mint is the lowest menthol level in the range and TEREA Menthol is the plain step up with peppermint instead of berry.
What does the Japan edition change?
The pack is made for the Japanese market, so the pack text and the health warnings are printed in Japanese. The stick is the standard format you load into an ILUMA device.
The naming is the part that costs people money. Japan uses names like Regular, Ruby Regular and Purple Menthol, while the international range uses Amber, Sienna, Turquoise and similar names.
Sometimes the two official descriptions do line up. Japan Regular is roasted, rounded tobacco with faint nutty and woody aromas, and international Amber reads almost the same.
Blueberry is not one of those cases. No stick in the international range lists blueberry in its official description, so there is no close wording match for this flavour.
Watch out for the colour name too. There is an international TEREA Purple, and sharing a colour with a Japan stick does not make the two the same blend.
The nearest international menthol by official wording is TEREA Turquoise, a lightly toasted blend with crisp menthol cooling and zesty aroma notes. Zesty means citrus, not berry.
IQOS publishes no official mapping between the ranges, so all of that is wording against wording. Our Kazakhstan range and our Purple flavour page let you compare them yourself.
What is inside the box?
The carton weighs about 240 grams and measures 162 x 75 x 47 mm.
No device, charger, cable or accessory is included. If you do not own a compatible device yet, you need to buy one separately.
How do you use TEREA Purple Menthol?
There is no blade inside an ILUMA device, so there are no cleaning sticks to buy and nothing to scrape out. That is the main practical difference from older blade models.
Which devices does TEREA Purple Menthol work with?
TEREA works with the IQOS ILUMA series only. That covers ILUMA, ILUMA One and ILUMA Prime, plus ILUMA i, ILUMA i One and ILUMA i Prime.
Blade devices will not work. TEREA heats from a metal element sealed inside the stick, and there is no tobacco plug for a blade to slide into.
If you need a device, browse the IQOS ILUMA range or the newer IQOS ILUMA i range and pair it with these sticks.
Who should pick Purple Menthol, and who should skip it?
Pick it if you want the sweetest of the gentle menthol sticks. Berry drinkers and anyone moving over from a fruit flavoured cigarette tend to settle here quickly.
Skip it if sweetness tires you out. The rest of the menthol family is drier, and TEREA Yellow Menthol in particular is tart rather than jammy.
Skip it too if you want serious cold. The Black menthol group is the honest answer for that, and the official wording promises intensely cold menthol.
How should you store TEREA Purple Menthol in the UAE?
Heat and humidity flatten berry aromas quickly. Keep packs sealed until you open them and store them indoors at normal room temperature.
Never leave a pack in a parked car or out on a balcony. A closed car in Dubai summer gets hot enough to dull the blueberry and soften the stick.
A drawer or cupboard away from direct sun is enough. Skip the fridge, because moving packs between cold and humid air can dampen the tobacco.
What else is worth trying from the Japan range?
The full Japan collection holds the rest of the menthol family and the Regular family in one place.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Purple Menthol and Black Purple Menthol?
The berry idea stays, the cold changes. IQOS Japan calls this one a refreshing menthol with a luxurious blueberry aroma, and the Black version a strong menthol woven from intensely cold menthol with a mellow, full blueberry aroma.
Which stick gives fruit with no cooling at all?
Ruby Regular. Its official wording is rich raspberry and faint floral aromas that bring out mellow tobacco leaves, with no menthol at all. It is raspberry rather than blueberry, but it is the fruit route without any cold.
Which international TEREA is Purple Menthol closest to?
None of them closely, because no international stick lists blueberry in its official description. Turquoise is the nearest menthol by wording, but it is described as zesty, which means citrus. Treat the colour names as separate systems.
Does TEREA Purple Menthol have a capsule to click?
No. It is a plain menthol stick with no capsule inside, so there is nothing to squeeze and no click. Only the Pearl sticks in the Japan range use a crushable capsule, and this one is not among them.
Does the Japanese pack text matter?
Only for reading the pack. The warnings and the flavour name are printed in Japanese, which is normal for a product made for the Japanese market. The sticks load and heat in an ILUMA device exactly the same way.
How long does one carton last?
A carton holds 200 sticks. At ten sticks a day that is about twenty days, and at twenty a day about ten days. Each stick gives up to 14 puffs, which is roughly five minutes of use.
Nicotine and age notice
These sticks contain nicotine, which is addictive. They are intended for adult smokers aged 18 and over, and they are not a way to stop smoking.
Nicotine content is approximately 0.5 mg per stick. Keep packs away from children and anyone under the legal age, and see our privacy policy for how we handle order details.
